C Chair

C Chair was designed based on Antonio Gaudi empirical form finding methods.  With a use of hanging chain models he was able to derive equilibrium shapes for his arched structures. A single chain subject to gravity forms according to a catenary curve, once inverted tension elements turn into compression elements.
Form of C Chair was generated with a use of digital design tools which allows to simulate the same physical principles as Gaudi used. This form was translated into rib structure which was fabricated by laser cutter. The rib structure was used as a framework for 13mm concrete canvas, which formed the final chair.
